Floats Arriving for Victoria International Marina

Date   2016-07-12

Almost 8 years after it was originally announced the Victoria International Marina construction project is finally underway. This is one of our biggest projects to date at $24 million. We are very excited to get construction underway. We have already started building sections of the floats in our yard in Delta, BC; however you can expect to see us out on the water at the beginning of July! The marina will consist of 28 slips and two large commercial buildings housing offices, restaurants, and other amenities. Dredging for the site started back in 2014 removing approximately 18,000 cubic metres of material from the seabed in preparation for the new marina.

The goal of this marina is to increase tourism in the area and as such must be able to accommodate very large vessels such as luxury yachts. The project has faced substantial setbacks in the past 8 years as many local residents (primarily paddlers and sightseers) thought that the inclusion of a big marina such as this would disturb their harbour and bring too many large ships into the area. In addition the developers had issues with local zoning legislation and power grid restrictions.

Nonetheless 8 years later we are very excited to be finally ramping up operations on this marina! We hope that all stakeholders will see the value this new structure will bring to the community in terms of tourism and infrastructure.  It will be a beautiful sight once complete and we here at Blue Water Systems will do everything in our power to minimize environmental impact of our construction efforts  to protect the wildlife in the area. Make sure to check out the Victoria International Marina when it is complete, estimated to be June 2017! Read the full article in the Times Colonist,

Hope to see you there!
